The Head Office is in Pietermaritzburg, Kwa-Zulu Natal, with the distance to the Port Of Durban (Africa’s largest Port) only being 90km, making its close proximity ideal for exporting containers to established markets in Europe and the Mediterranean.
E & C Charcoals has exclusively supplied Woolworths for the past 10 years, Spar for the last 20 years with our house brand charcoal Braaiquette, and Shoprite Checkers for the past 20 years.
Warm summers and mild winters with an annual rainfall of 1000mm create an excellent environment for the growth of Wattle trees which are used for the production of Charcoal.
The Company and it's predecessors have produced Charcoal since the 1930's. However exporting to Europe and to a lesser extent the middle East only began in 1977. E & C Charcoal is the biggest producer of Charcoal in South Africa with an annual production of 20 000 tons of lump and 12 000 tons of briquettes. The vast majority of the Company's production is exported to almost every European country, and it has established an excellent International reputation for quality, service and reliability.
In 1988 and 1991 The Company received the State Presidents Award for Export Achievement. In 1997 The Company became FSC accredited and is endorsed by WWF South Africa with whom they have a royalty agreement because of their environmental standards and commitments.
